  1. Do any of the birds seem confused this time of year? I think my wrens would be singing till midnight!

    1. I don't think they are confused, but they are busy. The sparrows are only here until July when they are done hatching and teaching flying lessons. Most of the birds are here for such a short time and they have so much to do before they go...

We are one of the birding meccas of the world. For about six weeks of the year we have big-time birding specialists in town. The rest of the summer it is slower.

  2. Glad to see the snow has gone, and muskox, this is my introduction to them. Are they adorable pests?

    1. The muskox are great big shaggy beasts that roam around the Seward Peninsula. They were re-introduced some years ago when their numbers dwindled. If they are left alone they are fairly harmless, but I wouldn't want to mess with an angry one. They have been known to often get tired of dogs harassing them and flip the dogs into the air. Usually the dogs are in a position where they cannot escape. This year we have seen lots of babies which are frolicking creatures and I have enjoyed watching them. We try to watch from a distance and not stumble upon them when we are out. Here are a few more pictures: http://dexterdays-sdk.blogspot.com/search/label/muskox
